The Buffalo Bills have been fighting for their playoff lives over the last two weeks, and will continue to do so for the remainder of the season.
At 8-6, the Bills hold the No. 9 seed in the AFC heading into Week 16 where they will face the Los Angeles Chargers in SoFi Stadium. With a win, and a little help, the Bills could find themselves holding a playoff spot at week's end. However, it doesn't appear that they will be getting any help from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh hosts the Cincinnati Bengals this week in Pittsburgh. The Bengals also boast an 8-6 record, but hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Buffalo. The Steelers defeated the Bengals in their first matchup, but haven't won a game since, and they'll be starting their third quarterback of the season this week.
Kenny Pickett has been ruled out for Pittsburgh, meaning he will miss his third consecutive game due to an ankle injury. Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin announced earlier this week that the Steelers intend to start Mason Rudolph if Pickett is unable to play.
Mitch Trubisky started the previous two games for the Steelers, but the Steelers' offense failed to get anything going. They averaged just 15.5 points per game against the Patriots and Colts, respectively. Trubisky also threw three interceptions in those two games.
Even with Pickett, the Steelers' offense has been dreadful all season, and it was going to be difficult to pull off a win regardless of who is under center.
Aside from needing Pittsburgh to win, Bills fans' rooting interests will lie with another AFC North team as the Cleveland Browns will face the Houston Texans. The Bills will also be rooting for the Atlanta Falcons to defeat the Indianapolis Colts. If Buffalo wins, and any two of the three aforementioned teams lose, the Bills will have their grip on a Wildcard spot.
