Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid didn't have his Santa costume on during Monday's media availability, but he delivered a present for all of the Chiefs Kingdom to hear.
After missing the past two weeks with a shoulder injury requiring a cleanup surgery, Chiefs starting RB Isiah Pacheco is expected to return for the team's Week 16 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas day.
"It wasn't the muscle," Reid said. "He'll be back this week. He'll be good to go this week. Unless there are further setbacks, but right now, everything has been positive for him to go. Really, he had clearance last week, from the fellow that did the surgery. It was just a matter of being cautious about it."
The team knows just how important Pacheco is to the success of the offense and wanted to be cautious about rushing him back. While they have three games left in the regular season, they want him to be available for the win-or-go-home games in the playoffs next month.
Reid reiterated that this isn't just a return to practice for Pacheco, but full clearance for contact and playing in a game on Sunday.
"I think he'll play this week (against the Raiders)," Reid said. "I think he'll be ready to go. That was the clearance he had to be able to do that."
While the emergence of Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been a welcomed addition to the offense, Pacheco's return will provide a big energy boost for his teammates and a big production boost in the ground game.
