Earlier this month, longtime Tennessee Vols commit Jonathan Echols, a four-star tight end, flipped his commitment to USF.

Echols had been committed to Tennessee since July 4, 2022. His decision to flip to USF reunited him with Alex Golesh, the Vols' former offensive coordinator/tight ends coach.

The Georgia native is rated as the No. 13 tight end in the nation and the No. 176 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

After losing Echols, the Vols still wanted to add a high school tight end to their 2024 recruiting class. And on Tuesday night, they got their replacement for Echols by landing three-star tight end Cole Harrison.

Harrison, 6-foot-5/San Mateo, CA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 38 tight end in the nation and the No. 46 player in the state of California. He committed to the Vols over offers from Houston, Pittsburgh, and Washington State.

On paper, it looks like USF got the better player. But recruiting rankings, of course, aren't always accurate. It will likely be several years before we actually know if Harrison is a better player than Echols (or vice versa).

But for the next couple of seasons, fans will undoubtedly keep an eye on USF to see if the Vols got the best end of this deal.
