Former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan was doing a live interview with Rich Eisen on Tuesday when the news broke that Mike Vrabel had been fired by the Titans.
Lewan, who played for five seasons under Vrabel in Nashville, was shocked by the news.
"Mike Vrabel is fired?" said Lewan upon hearing the news.
"That is nuts," added Lewan. "I knew there was clamoring going on on the inside — I talked to a couple of guys, obviously I have some relationships with the Titans. As the season was unfolding, to me, it was very clear that Vrabes was not the problem. The talent — it just wasn't a team that was filled with enough talent to be truly competitive in the NFL. And that was just the reality of the situation."
"You can point a lot of fingers," continued Lewan. "But I don't think the finger you could truly point at was at Vrabel. He's a guy that…damn, Rich. I can't believe this is happening right now while we're talking."
"He's the absolute best is what he is. Under Vrabel, [we went] to an AFC Championship. We were in position to be contenders for a Super Bowl."
It's clear that Lewan, who hasn't returned to the NFL after getting released by the Titans last offseason, doesn't think Tennessee is making the right decision by moving on from Vrabel.
Vrabel is expected to receive significant interest from the five franchises (Chargers, Commanders, Raiders, Panthers, and Falcons) that are also currently searching for new head coaches.
