The Kansas City Chiefs have announced all of their roster moves ahead of their Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
We already know that they activated WR Mecole Hardman from injured reserve. In a corresponding move, they released DT Matt Dickerson from the 53-man roster. Dickerson appeared in 11 games this season and recorded 12 combined tackles.
The more interesting moves for Kansas City were the team's practice squad elevations. For the third consecutive week, they've elevated DT Mike Pennel from the practice squad, providing a strong presence in the middle of the field to help thwart the opposing run game. The other move, however, shows that the team is hedging their bets at a position dealing with injury.
What does RB Keaontay Ingram's practice squad elevation mean?
Chiefs HC Andy Reid expressed confidence on Friday that RB Isiah Pacheco and RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire would be able to play in Week 17. Asked about playing La'Mical Perine or elevating players from the practice squad for the Bengals game, he expressed confidence they'd be good to go.
“I don’t think we’re going to have to do that, but they’d be fine,” Reid said.
Here we are on Saturday, and Keaontay Ingram is seeing his first practice squad elevation since joining the practice squad in late November. Does this indicate that either Pacheco or Edwards-Helaire won't play on Sunday? Not necessarily. It simply shows that the Chiefs are preparing if either play can't go.
Pacheco was still in the NFL's concussion protocol as of Friday. Edwards-Helaire has been dealing with an illness.
