Any time the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals play one another, there will be trash talk. That's just what happens in one of the NFL's newest rivalries. The Chiefs have done their fair share of the trash talking, and we know the Bengals have said plenty over the last three years now.
This year, it started with Ja'Marr Chase, as he has said a few things over the years. And let's get one thing straight: when they beat the Chiefs three times in a row, at that time, they had every right to talk trash. But the record is 2-3 now for the Chiefs in this newfound rivalry.
Chase started one of his locker room scrums with the media by saying the Chief's secondary doesn't really do anything special. Of course, he was asked about it first, and his quote is kind of funny, to say the least.
"If I'm being honest, nothing," Chase told reporters in the locker room. "They just know how to play us; they know the leverages; they know what splits we are in. They just know what we're going to do in certain moments. They throw a few double-doubles at us to stop the two best players on our side, and that's all they do. I mean, it's not really like they got a Jalen Ramsey on the squad."
The Chiefs should have taken offense to that, especially when you factor in that they have been a top-three defense in the league in terms of points allowed per game. L'Jarius Sneed and Trent McDuffie have been two of the best CB duos in the league, with Sneed becoming a top CB overall in the league.
So, what did the Chiefs do? Well, they won, of course, and that's amazing and all, but they did something better than the win. They held Chase, who talked all that trash, to four catches for 41 yards.
If you ask me, that's enough to make Chiefs fans happy. Not to mention, they are now AFC West Champions for eight years in a row. And, of course, L'Jarius Sneed answered the trash talk in the perfect way.
"We had some words, but you know…check the stats," Sneed told reporters in the locker room.
According to Next Gen Stats, Sneed aligned across from Chase on 21 of his 34 routes (61.8%). He allowed two receptions for 27 yards on three targets. It's also important to note that Sneed didn't practice at all this week and still went out and locked up Chase.
Not only is the Chiefs secretary legit, but they are one of the best units in the league. When it's time for Sneed to get paid, all he will have to do is tell teams to play his tape.
