Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid announced on Wednesday that his team will rest several starters during their matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

With the No. 3 seed locked in for the Chiefs, they don't want to risk injury to key players with the playoffs looming. Guys will also get some much-needed rest after a long season full of ups and downs. This provides a big opportunity for guys who don't see the field much to perhaps earn some playing time in the postseason or give them momentum for next season.

Here are five Chiefs who could benefit from a big showing this week.

QB Blaine Gabbert

This will be Gabbert's first start since 2018 when he played for the Tennessee Titans. He got a little bit of mop-up duty during the Chiefs Week 3 blowout victory over the Chicago Bears. Gabbert had an impressive preseason, throwing for 348 yards and five touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 123.5.

At 34 years old, Gabbert is an unrestricted free agent after this season and his career could be winding down. If he plans to continue to play, and in Kansas City at that, a good showing this week will go a long way in showing that he's still a viable backup option.

WR Justyn Ross

Ross was the most hyped player in Kansas City during training camp and preseason, both by fans and the team. He has an excellent blend of size and athleticism and could have been an early-round draft pick if not for a foot injury. Ross made some impressive catches during the preseason, including two touchdown grabs.

It seemed as though he would be eased into the Chiefs' offense similar to rookie receiver Rashee Rice, but a suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy set him back. Ross received a handful of snaps in each of K.C.'s last two games but caught just one pass for two yards during that span.

On Sunday against the Chargers, Ross should see plenty of snaps and have the opportunity to run some downfield routes. He could also get a few looks in the red zone, where he could make an impact with his size. If Ross impresses and has a productive game, he could make a case for an uptick in snaps and targets during the postseason, especially given the Chiefs' struggles at wide receiver.

RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Edwards-Helaire is an unrestricted free agent after this season. Most view him as unlikely to return to K.C. after an underwhelming four seasons. He never lived up to his first-round billing and has battled several injuries throughout his career. There are times when we get flashes of Edwards-Helaire's first-round talent, but he hasn't been able to put it all together on a week-to-week basis.

Edwards-Helaire may get the start this week, but regardless he should see a quality number of snaps. A stellar performance will give him a boost for when he hits the open market in the offseason. It could also give him some momentum heading into the postseason, where he'll certainly play a role out of the K.C. backfield.

CB Joshua Williams

Williams has mostly been a role player throughout his first two seasons but does have five career starts. He has impressive size at 6-foot-3 and has the physicality and long reach to reroute receivers and make plays on the ball. However, his Achilles heel is hanging with receivers on deep routes and keeping his eyes on the ball.

If Williams wants to be a full-time starter someday, he'll have to put together a complete game and show that he can defend the deep ball. If the Chiefs don't bring back starting cornerback L'Jarius Sneed in the offseason, Williams could compete for a starting job opposite second-year cornerback Trent McDuffie. A good performance against the Chargers this week could raise some eyebrows with the coaching staff.

DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah

It's been somewhat of a redshirt season for Anudike-Uzomah as he's been buried on the depth chart of a talented defensive line. He has played 157 defensive snaps this season, recording 11 combined tackles, eight quarterback pressures, and 0.5 sacks. Having played so little, it's hard to know how he's developing, and we likely won't get a good evaluation of him until next season.

Anudike-Uzomah could have a golden opportunity against L.A. this week. There is no reason for the Chiefs to not give him a ton of snaps in this game. It wouldn't be shocking if he got a full workload. If Anudike-Uzomah can flash some pass-rushing ability and make some plays against the run, it would ease Chiefs fans' minds about him heading into next year.
