The Miami Dolphins have done nothing but take hits, hits, and more hits to their roster for weeks at a time. A new week, a new debilitating injury. Navigating an NFL season is a war of attrition, but the Dolphins' situation is unbelievable.
For once, finally, it seems they could be adding back to their roster this month instead of plucking someone else off of it.
LB Jerome Baker practiced for a second straight day on Thursday, which is a good sign for his availability for Sunday night's critical showdown with the Buffalo Bills.
Baker was injured back in Week 13 in the Dolphins' 45-15 win over the Washington Commanders, suffering a knee injury when he collided with S Brandon Jones. He was placed on injured reserve and is eligible to return on Sunday.
LB coach Anthony Campanile talked on Thursday about what he needs to see from Baker for a possible return on Sunday.
"The speed of it, just getting back out there and doing it. The benefit to him is he's super smart. He's elite-level smart…you go right back to where you left off with him."
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio also said on Thursday that Thursday's practice would be telling for whether or not Baker be able to play on Sunday. Well, the good news for Miami is he was able to at least practice in a limited fashion, so that box is checked off.
The question as far as what Fangio, Campanile, and Mike McDaniel saw on the practice field and how Baker responded will have to wait for Friday at least, when the game status designations are released for each player.
