The Carolina Panthers may clear house as soon as the end of Week 18 after another disappointing half-year journey.
Coming into the season were expectations of the competing in the NFC South. What the Panthers got instead was a season that was over before Week 6.
Panthers owner David Tepper already fired Frank Reich, the team's former head coach, and it is believed that Scott Fitterer may be on the way out. In the running for the next general manager of the organization, however, may be a familiar name.
If Fitterer gets fired, Dan Morgan is a name that could assume that role in the 2024 season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday.
Should he fire Fitterer, Tepper then would have a clean slate to offer a prospective head coach and GM, though Panthers assistant GM Dan Morgan also has support within the organization, according to sources," Schefter wrote.
The prospect of Fitterer getting fired is also high, according to Schefter's report.
As the team transitions to its next iteration, Morgan is set to play a pivotal role, regardless of whether Fitterer is fired, Joe Person of The Athletic reported.
The Panthers started working with Morgan in 2001, when the team selected him in the first round of the NFL Draft.
He played for the Panthers until 2007, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2004.
Morgan then retired in 2009. He then shifted his career to front-office roles, barnstorming around the league before landing as the assistant general manager for the Panthers in 2021.
Now, all reports indicate that he may get a chance to call all the shots for a Panthers team that hasn't been good under Fitterer.
