Scott Fitterer is out as the Carolina Panthers general manager, the franchise announced Monday morning.
"As we move forward with the new direction for our franchise, I have made the decision that Scott Fitterer will no longer serve as our general manager," Panthers owner David Tepper said. "I appreciate Scott's efforts and wish the best for him and his family."
With Fitterer gone, the Panthers will be hiring a coach and general manager in the offseason — the first time the franchise has done so since 2001.
Fitterer took over general manager duties in 2021. During his tenure, the Panthers have yet to make the NFL postseason.
Under the Fitterer tenure, the Panthers had a record of 14-37.
Tepper is attempting to rebuild this organization in another offseason, but the process has more urgency than ever before.
The Panthers embarrassed themselves this season with rookie quarterback Bryce Young struggling and the firing of Frank Reich at the midpoint of everything.

The horrible Panthers record netted the No. 1 pick, but due to the deal the franchise made with Chicago, that pick is heading to the Bears.
Any general manager who takes over the Panthers' job will have their work cut out for them, especially with the impatience of Tepper as an owner.
The Panthers will begin the search for his replacement immediately, and will be able to interview coaching candidates in person beginning Jan. 22, the team reported Monday.
Panthers next GM may actually be a familiar name
The Carolina Panthers may clear house as soon as the end of Week 18 after another disappointing half-year journey.
