Jets end season and embarrassing streak against Patriots with victory

One embarrassing streak down, one to go. It just might take a year to check the second one off.
The New York Jets finally ended the 15-game losing streak to the New England Patriots, with a 17-3 victory Sunday. The win ended the Jets season with a 7-10 record and dropped the Patriots to 4-13.
The streak, which dates back to the Obama administration was hanging over the franchise like a dark cloud. "It feels great," linebacker C.J. Mosley said. "Since I've been here, that's been the question every time we played them. And I can finally say, we don't have to talk about it anymore."
“You get to a point where you get into a situation like that and it’s time to make some s— change,” defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers said. “We were able to start 2024 on a good note.”
The game itself was a typical 2023 New York Jets game. Ugly. But at least this time the weather could shoulder some of the blame. Snow fell throughout most of the game and picked up intensity at times that made it hard to see.
It was almost impossible to throw the ball down field, which considering the two franchises on the field, was just fine.
The Jets leaned heavily on Breece Hall, who rushed 37 times for 178 yards which were both career highs. Hall sealed the victory late in the fourth quarter with a 50-yard run for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
In the grand scheme of things, maybe it didn’t matter much for a 7-10 team that was eliminated from the playoffs weeks ago. But at least the Jets can find solace in knowing no one needs to ask them about their long losing streak to New England anymore.
“That’s the best part about it,” Franklin-Myers said, smiling.
The win was even a little sweeter because of the realization that it may have been Bill Belichick’s last as coach for the Patriots.
"This feels great, especially if it might be his last game," tackle Mekhi Becton said with a big smile. "So it definitely feels great to send him out on that, for sure."
Belichick has dominated the Jets (along with the rest of the league) for most of his tenure with as head coach of the Patriots. Going back to when he scribbled on a cocktail napkin “I resign as HC of the NYJ” just two days into his tenure as head coach of the Jets to take the Patriots job.
The win gives the Jets something to build on going forward. It will be one of the most important off-seasons in franchise history in order to end their 13-year playoff drought. And it starts today.
Jets have two players headed to Pro Bowl while others got snubbed
The New York Jets knew they had a pair of young, defensive stars on the team, and the whole league knows it too. Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner were selected to the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season. "That's what I'm here for. I'm trying to make history, trying to make history every year," […]
