The Las Vegas Raiders took a flyer on a guy the New England Patriots sort of gave up on. Jack Jones was released after being drafted just a two years ago in the fourth round. The Raiders put a claim in for him and it’s worked out ever since.
A lot of fans didn’t want the move at first. The Patriots way didn’t work with Josh McDaniels so it seemed like that’s what the team was going for again. But this was different; much different.
Interim head coach Antonio Pierce had a previously established relationship with Jones. Pierce was his head coach in high school at Long Beach Poly in California, and his defensive coordinator in college at Arizona State. It’s safe to say Pierce had to have Jones in Las Vegas.
We saw last week Jones put an emphasis on him being a Raider. He showed that he is a Raider through and through, and already has one of the coolest highlights in Raiders’ history. The one hand snag on the pick-six play against the Los Angeles Chargers, in a game where the Raiders scored their most points in franchise history, was by far one of the coolest things ever.
He has embraced wearing silver and black. Earlier this week embraced it again – taking the Kansas City Chiefs – Las Vegas Raiders rivalry by the horns.
“Mahomes is the magician. You stop the magician, you stop the act,” Jones said earlier in the week.
A lot of general NFL fans thought he was going to regret saying that. And, to be fair, you don’t really trash talk Patrick Mahomes before the game, because it usually backfires. He’s a two time MVP, and a two time Super Bowl MVP.
This time it didn’t backfire. Jones stood on his word, or, as the kids say, stood on business.
Jack Jones not only beat the Chiefs, he was one of the reasons Mahomes had a sub-par game. Mahomes threw an interception to Jack Jones, who stared the Chiefs QB down while he returned it for a touchdown.
He stood on his word. Jones is helping bring back Raiders football.

Giving the Kansas City Chiefs bulletin board material is a bad idea.
