After a long break following "Thursday Night Football" against the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided his typical pre-practice injury update to kick off the practice week with another AFC West rival on deck.
Reid kicked things off by providing an update on the only player set to miss practice on Wednesday. That's none other than WR Justin Watson, who suffered a dislocated elbow in Week 6 against the Broncos.
"Alright, really the only injury is Justin Watson," Reid said. "He has an elbow contusion. He won't practice today. We'll just see how he does here down the road."
Watson is not expected to be placed on IR
An elbow contusion sounds much better than an elbow dislocation, and the outlook seems to be much better too. Dislocations typically have a 4-6 week recovery period, but when asked if Watson was a candidate for injured reserve, Reid shot that notion down. He said Watson would return prior to the four weeks a player must be on injured reserve in order to be designated to return.
"Before then," Reid said.
The good news is that he won't need to be placed on injured reserve. The bad news is that it at least appears he'll miss some time, presumably starting with the Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. This also gives Kansas City a bit less flexibility with the roster, being that Watson will take up a spot on the 53-man roster while injured. Watson currently has the second-most receiving yards among Chiefs wide receivers and the highest yard-per-reception average.

| Player | Injury | Participation |
|---|---|---|
WR Justin Watson | Elbow | DNP |
S Bryan Cook | Neck | FP |
LB Nick Bolton | Ankle | FP |
DE George Karlaftis | Hamstring | FP |
TE Travis Kelce | Ankle | FP |
CB L’Jarius Sneed | Knee | FP |
WR Kadarius Toney | Toe | FP |
P Tommy Townsend | Left Knee | FP |
DE Charles Omenihu | NIR/Suspension | FP |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations:
- Everyone outside of Justin Watson was considered a full participant in practice. That's a good sign, even with several players dealing with ticky-tacky injuries.
- Charles Omenihu was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. There will be no ramp-up period in practice following his return from suspension.
- The only "new" injury is Bryan Cook (neck). He was a full participant in practice.
