A banged-up Carolina Panthers defense finally got some needed depth Tuesday morning.

The team announced it signed Alex Cook from the New York Giants practice squad.

Without Xavier Woods or Vonn Bell, the team's defense could use any help it can get.

Cook was signed by the Giants as an undrafted rookie from Washington.

For the Huskies, he was a team captain and started all 13 games last year, leading the team in tackles.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder is hoping to help a defense in desperate need.
