The Tennessee Vols are battling Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, among several other programs, for one of the top 2025 recruits in the nation.
2025 five-star running back Jordon Davison, 5-foot-11/203 lbs from Santa Ana, CA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state of California. He's also rated as the No. 28 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
Davison attends Mater Dei in California, which is the same high school that Vols wide receiver Bru McCoy attended (former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young also went to Mater Dei).
Davison recently took a visit to Colorado which he reportedly loved according to Rivals.com.
Tennessee, however, is "pushing hard" for the talented running back.
“Tennessee has been pushing really hard recently," said Davison to Rivals. "And then Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Colorado, Michigan, I like Georgia a lot."
The battle for Davison, who still has over a year before he can sign, is clearly going to be intense. But the Vols are shooting their shot against some of the top programs in the nation.
Tennessee's had success holding onto commits that Sanders and Colorado have badly wanted (Boo Carter and Gage Ginther). But they can go head to head against Coach Prime for a five-star and win the battle?
It's obviously too early to know. But Tennessee is showing that they won't back down on the recruiting trail whether it's Coach Prime, Georgia, Alabama or any other top program. Josh Heupel and his staff are taking some big swings and they're connecting on a few of those swings (landing linebacker Arion Carter over Alabama, for example).
Tennessee's success running the ball this season with Jaylen Wright, Jabari Small, and Dylan Sampson should help in their pursuit of Davison.
