The Buffalo Bills lost two of their premiere defensive players, Matt Milano and DaQuan Jones, for what was believed to be the rest of the season.
Jones was injured early in the contest making an athletic tackle for loss in which he suffered a pec injury that would require surgery. The talented defensive tackle has been one of the league's best and a bright spot on the already dominant defensive line.
For Milano, his injury seemed far scarier as his leg was caught up under the pile in which he almost immediately was carted off the field and put into an aircast. The All-Pro LB is a staple on this defense and has been a dominant force since winning the starting job in Buffalo.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott had previously confirmed that both players would require surgery, putting the rest of their season in question, until now. In an unprecedented update from the head coach, there is a glimmer of hope that they can return this season. While unlikely, McDermott didn't rule out their return.
If you'd like to fast forward, McDermott's comments on Milano and Jones take place at the 4:59 mark of the interview above.
McDermott opened up on the next steps for Milano and Jones, "All I know is they're going to be put on IR. They're going through or have gone through surgery already. But that's really where I'm at right now."
Speaking on Jones and Milano being on IR and what that might mean for the season, McDermott gave the fanbase a big reason to celebrate. Answering a question on whether or not they could return this season, McDermott offered, "Yes, I don't think that that door's been shut totally. But again, more information is needed to really say that."
When asked to clarify whether he was talking about Jones or Milano, McDermott offered, hesitantly, "I'll say both."
These questions come on the heels of McDermott and the Buffalo Bills organization officially placing the two on IR while activating Baylon Spector and signing A.J. Klein, something I previously wrote about.
Obviously, we need to take this with a massive grain of salt as both players suffered catastrophic injuries in the contest. McDermott and the team are remaining optimistic, and we should too.
