The Las Vegas Raiders are gearing up to play the Green Bay Packers for the first time since 2019. A lot of first times are going to happen in this game, including one that Davante Adams is very invested in.
However, this game is special for him because it's where his NFL stardom started and where he essentially grew up. He became the player we see today in Green Bay. You ask him, though, and this is just another game, during the game, that is.
"Yeah, I mean, it's obviously that part leading up to it, but then once the game starts, it's just like every other game. It's not going to be a whole lot of emotion and all that other stuff tied up in it once the clock is ticking," Adams said on Thursday. "So, the story and the specialness of the opportunity to play the team that you kind of grew up in that organization is special, but then, as I said, once we get going, it's time to go."
That's just how Adams approaches everything. He is a guy that won't let any emotions get in the way of winning football games. Sure, there will be emotions because he did spend a decade there, but he can't let that dominate the idea of why they are really playing each other.
"I'm not looking too deep into it as it pertains to that stuff," Adams continued. "It's more just enjoying an opportunity to see some of the old faces from in the training room, coaches, and a couple of players. It's a much different team over the last couple of years since I was there. It'll be a cool opportunity to see some of those guys and obviously play against a team that I've never played against. It's my last team to play against, so it'll be fun."
This is one of the last things Adams has to check off his list – playing the Green Bay Packers, a team he has never played because he played for them. Obviously, he still has a few other things on his list, too, like winning a Super Bowl or maybe Offensive Player of the Year.
Even through their struggles this season, Adams has still played well. He is the best receiver in the league on third and fourth downs. He is still one of the best receivers in the league. On Sunday, he was the Raiders' entire offense on the last drive of the game for Las Vegas.
Even if they win or lose on Monday Night Football, Adams will be happy he got to see some old faces.
