Detroit Lions 16-man practice squad projection after second preseason game: Lions keep offensive lineman of the future

Earlier on Monday we went over what our projection for the Detroit Lions 53-man roster looks like, now it's time to go take a look at the guys that got cut and find 16 of them to put on the Lions practice squad this season. Here's our practice squad projection:
QB ?: I don't know who the Lions go with on their practice squad, but it's hard to look at anything Nate Sudfeld did this summer and think that the Lions are going to want to hold on to him. Maybe they stick. Maybe they go with Fromm. We'll see.
HB Jake Funk: Last week I went with Zonvan Knight here, but I think he ultimately gets claimed after the Lions cut him. The Lions could use a running back on the practice squad and Funk has been good enough to earn that.
WR Daurice Fountain: While he fell off the wagon that could have had him be the team's starting WR3. that doesn't mean the Lions will just throw him in the trash heap. If he clears waivers, they should definitely bring him back.
WR Tom Kennedy: The Lions are required by law to have Tom Kennedy on their practice squad. He's just a steady reliable guy that can elevate and give you some catches. You keep a guy like that.
TE James Mitchell: I will never give up on this one. I'm telling you guys, I saw a baller at Virginia Tech and he's still in there somewhere. Maybe one more year and he'll come out of his shell.
C Kinglsey Eguakun: He's looked really good during camp and the preseason and there's a chance the Lions could have their future starting center here. Just imagine what he can be after a year of working with Fraley.
T Jake Barton: He's quietly looked pretty good in camp and in the preseason. It's good to have some depth hanging around the practice squad.
G Kayode Awosika: The Lions could go either way with him. He could very well make the 53-man roster, but right now I have Michael Niese in that spot. We'll see where that goes soon enough.
G Jamarco Jones: Can totally see the Lions wanting to give this guy a little more time in their system to see what he can be.
Edge Mitchell Agude: Thought he put forth a really good camp and a strong preseason, but he has too many guys in front of him to make the roster at this time. Still, the Lions seem to like him.
DT Kyle Peko: Here's another guy that could very well make the Lions 53-man roster. A solid vet that can do what Benito Jones could do, but better. He needs to be kept around.
Edge Isaac Ukwu: Really good in the first two preseason games. Logged a sack in both of them. He still needs some time to grow, but this is a guy that can make the roster next year and maybe be a good part of the rotation.
LB Ben Niemann: Looked really good in that second preseason game, the Lions are just so stacked at linebacker right now. They have their guys and this is the hardest spot to make the roster. He's someone to hang onto.
CB Steven Gilmore: He didn't take the big step that we thought he would take, but he still is someone that is worth keeping because time on task can help a guy get to the point you want him to be.
CB ?: The Lions should keep another cornerback on their practice squad, I just don't think that guy is currently on their roster.
S: C.J. Moore: Brandon Joseph and Loren Strickland have been a lot better than him during camp and in the preseason, but Moore is worth keeping around for his special teams prowess.
The one Lions player that’s going to be the absolute hardest player to cut, but is probably getting cut
We're a week away from the hardest time that any NFL coach is going to have this summer. We're talking about cut down day. Dan Campbell and company are going to have to cut this Detroit Lions team down from 90 players to 53. Some cuts will be easy and others are going to be […]
