The Minnesota Vikings are planning on playing their starters for a short period during their preseason debut against the Las Vegas Raiders. Wide receiver Justin Jefferson and safety Harrison Smith will not play which was expected.
However, there was a third Vikings that was announced to be sitting out on Saturday which came as a surprise. Rookie UDFA edge rusher Gabriel Murphy will miss the game on Saturday per a report from The Athletic's Alec Lewis.
Murphy was given $225k in guarantees as an undrafted free agent, which is a lot of money. However, Murphy was silimar to linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. last year in that he was ranked in the top 115 players on the consensus board. He's been flashing during training camp and has made waves early and often.
Murphy not suiting up is certainly a disappointment as he was a player I identified as a player who had the most to gain during this game. In his absence, watch fellow UDFA edge rusher Owen Porter out of Marshall.
