On Tuesday, Pro Football Focus detailed one final move that they think each AFC team should make before training camp starts later this month.

For the Buffalo Bills, PFF didn't suggest signing a current free agent or making a trade. Instead, they think the Bills should extend defensive end Gregory Rousseau.

From PFF: Rousseau hasn’t flashed with raw sack numbers since entering the NFL, totaling just 17 in three seasons with the Bills, but his all-around performance in 2023 should have left the front office feeling good about his capabilities moving forward. Rousseau earned an excellent 85.6 PFF overall grade in 2023, and his 55 pressures were a career high.

The sacks will come if Rousseau can consistently rack up high pressure numbers. That means the money will come, too. With Von Miller in his twilight years and the Bills not having much of a pass-rushing threat outside of Rousseau, his value to the cause means even more.

Rousseau, a first round selection by the Bills in the 2021 NFL Draft, is one of those players that doesn't put up gaudy numbers, but he still makes a big impact on the field.

Over his first three years in the league, Rousseau, who has yet to reach the Pro Bowl, has recorded 17 sacks, 129 total tackles, 30 tackles for loss, and 42 quarterback hits. Solid numbers, though not necessarily spectacular.

The Bills picked up Rousseau's fifth-year option earlier this spring, so he's under team control through the 2025 season, which means Buffalo has some time.

Extending Rousseau now, however, could be a smart move for the Bills. The former Miami Hurricanes standout should only see his value increase moving forward, so the Bills would likely get a better deal if they act now. Additionally, Rousseau's cap hit in 2025 (his fifth-year option season) is currently $13.3 million. Extending Rousseau before 2025 would help lower that cap hit.
