Philadelphia Eagles most beloved defensive end Brandon Graham confirmed during training camp this week what fans are not ready to hear.
Graham told reporters on Wednesday that he will be retiring after the 2024 NFL season.
"It's my last year, man," Graham said following the Eagles' first training camp practice. "So, I'm just trying to soak it all in, trying to enjoy every day, trying to give it everything. No stone unturned."
This is no surprise considering he's hinted at retirement and enters his 15th season, but it's still heartbreaking to hear.
Graham has only grown to love the City of Brotherly Love more and more since the Eagles selected him with the 13th overall pick in the 2010 draft.
Like many Eagles players, Graham admitted it took a few seasons to warm up to the city and earn its respect, but admitted that he wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
"Man, Philly has always been the only option since I got here," Graham said via the "PHLY Sports" podcast. "I really just feel like I'm so welcome here. It didn't start so good but winning the Super Bowl definitely changed my mind about this city. And then me sacking Tom Brady and that helped my cost, but man it was tough in the beginning. But now, things have been forgiven and it's been so welcoming. I'm just trying to make sure that Philly knows that. That I'm going to ride with them until the end."
Graham was active for all 17 games last fall, but limited to playing just 34 percent of the team's defensive snaps. He still managed to log 16 combined tackles, three sacks, and six QB hits with the little action he did see.
Aside from having some juice left in the tank, Graham also brings an infectious personality and quality leadership to the locker room, which will be extremely difficult to replace a year from now.
