A former Tennessee Vols standout was named by Pro Football Focus this week as one of the best players at his position in the NFL.
Trey Smith, a guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, was named by PFF as one of the top 32 guards in the NFL this week.
PFF ranks Smith as the No. 13 guard in the NFL.
From PFF: Smith has the unenviable task of ensuring the NFL's best quarterback stays upright, and he has earned a PFF overall grade of at least 71.0 in three straight seasons. While he has allowed more than 30 pressures in each season, only 15 were quarterback hits. Generally, Smith is as solid as they come.
Availability has been a big green tick for Smith since he was drafted in 2021. He has missed just one game in three seasons, playing 3,319 snaps in that time. A true potential stalwart.
Smith, a former five-star recruit, was selected by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The former Vol fell to the sixth round, despite being a first round talent, due to concerns over blood clots he dealt with during his time at Tennessee.
Smith, however, has missed just one game in three seasons in the NFL, proving that the concerns over his health were blown out of proportion.
The Jackson, TN native is entering the final season of his rookie contract, which means he should be in line for either an extension with the Chiefs or a lucrative free agent deal (the franchise tag could also be a possibility for Smith after the 2024 season).
