The New Orleans Saints have a lot of veteran talent. It would take quite awhile to list them all. At the top of that list, though, is linebacker Demario Davis. He's an emotional leader on and off the field and continues to be one of the best linebackers in football.
Davis is very committed to his craft and his team. Nobody could ever doubt that. On Tuesday, he made a pretty bold statement regarding participation during OTAs.
Saints star Demario Davis called out his teammates after practice on Tuesday.
Davis' words were not weak. He was passionate about the preparation process, and you can tell that he is taking it seriously. The star linebacker clearly isn't happy that some other key players missing time currently.
As for the Chiefs, not every player is participating, but their participation is amongst the best in the NFL. The healthiest guys are showing up, even when it is optional.
OTAs are not required. That being said, the Saints are battling to become relevant in the NFC once again. Many players are tired of losing the NFC South in which the controlled for much of the 2010s.
Clearly, Davis is a part of the group hoping for more participation across the board – even when it is not demanded by the coaching staff or organization.
Of course, it is hard to put a direct finger on which players Davis is pointing the finger at, but some assumptions could be made. All in all, he just wants to see success for New Orleans. Fans will appreciate his passion.
During his interview on Tuesday, Davis also noted his strong rapport with Saints QB Derek Carr.
The two have formed a bond as leaders for the team, and he appreciates Carr's consistent, hard work.
Overall, Davis is determined to lead the Saints back to the postseason in 2024. If he has to hurt some feelings to make it happen, it seems worth it for him. I don't blame him for that one bit.
