After a tumultuous 2024 offseason, embattled Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is getting out in the community and doing some good.
On Tuesday, Rice posted a video on his social media channels showing him handing out water and pizza to the unhoused and other community members in what appears to be the Dallas, Texas area. This marks the first time we've heard Rice speak since his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas in late March.
“It’s your boy double R," Rice said. "We’re out here with some water and some pizza in the summertime. Everybody’s got to eat, you know what I’m saying, it's great weather. Let's do it."
Rice faces multiple felony charges and two civil lawsuits for his involvement in March's accident. His next court date is slated for June, while the trial date for the first civil lawsuit has been set for December. Rice's attorney has requested that both civil lawsuits be dismissed.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said the following about his conversations with Rice after OTAs last week:
“It’s not just me, just trying to do whatever we can to teach him (Rashee Rice) how to learn from his mistakes. Obviously, that was a big mistake, but you have to learn from it, make sure it doesn't happen again and try to do whatever you can to be the best person you can be in society. Not only for yourself but for the people around you. I think he is doing that, right now we’re just going to keep trying to do everything we can to get him on the right path so he can be a great football player obviously – but we want him to be a great person too.”
The 24-year-old receiver has a lot to make up for after the mistake he made this offseason, but this is certainly a good start as he aims to rebuild his life and image ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
