The rumor mill loves to churn during the NFL offseason. That's been no different in 2024, and the New Orleans Saints felt it the most with star cornerback Marshon Lattimore. There was tension in the building regarding the veteran and the staff in 2023, but they've seemingly taken a step forward.
Saints HC Dennis Allen said he had a positive conversation with Lattimore a couple of weeks ago.
"I had a conversation with him probably 2 or 3 weeks ago. I thought it was a positive conversation, so yeah, we're moving forward." — Allen on Lattimore
It feels like a narrative that we can put to bed in New Orleans. There was never clear discussions between the Saints and other organizations regarding a deal, and Mickey Loomis said that they weren't actively trying to move Lattimore within the last month.
"Marshon's been a really good player for us for a good period of time. He's one of the leaders of our team. It's just like I said, we can use as many corners as we can get. We've got a good group, a really good group, and they're gonna help each other and they're gonna help our team win…
When a guy is a really good player for your team – they're not on the market per se, but there are times when you get a call and somebody makes a proposal and it might makes sense for you. That's true for any player on your team. If you get an offer you can't refuse, you at least have to look at it. So that's what I would say. I'm not actively trying to trade Marshon. Marshon is such a good player. He's an elite corner. He's had some injuries the last couple seasons that have kept him off the field, and we've got to get over that. It's not his fault. It's just circumstances. That's just where we're at."

Allen and Loomis seem to be on the same page. Lattimore will be in the cards this season for the Saints as long as he stays healthy.
It's the correct choice, too. For a team with division crown aspirations, trading your top cornerback for a day two or three draft pick (most likely) never really made much sense to begin with for New Orleans.
The NFL just gave Dennis Allen everything he needs to keep his job
He must deliver now.
