Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith officially inked his contract extension on Tuesday.
He now makes $25 million per year, which is the same amount as his teammate and fellow wide receiver A.J. Brown.
The two have established themselves as one of the league's top pass-catching duos over the last two seasons.
Smith revealed during his post-contract signing presser that he and Brown's close relationship off of the field and their hunger on the field is what makes them such a successful pair.
“Two guys who understand one another,” Smith said. “I think the relationship we have has made us be able to take the games where we don’t have the big game and the other one does and be able to be happy for each other. There is never a time where we are mad at each other or mad at anyone about not getting targets.
“Let’s be realistic. Everybody wants to be part of the game, wants to make that big play. You should be happy that you have a guy like that because you have a lot of guys when that time comes they will shy away from the moment. You have a guy like him, a guy like me and we’re not going to shy away from the moment. When that moment comes, we always want to be a part of it. That’s the good thing about it. Everybody wants to spin it this way and that way, but you have two guys who want to be the alpha and I feel like that’s a good thing.”
Brown logged 106 catches on 158 targets for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023. Smith wasn't too far behind him with 81 catches for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns.
With the way things ended last year for the Eagles, you can expect each of them to have a bigger season in 2024.
