The Tennessee Vols are reportedly in a "good spot" for a key in-state four-star recruit just ahead of his commitment announcement.

2025 four-star defensive lineman Ethan Utley is set to announce his commitment on Thursday.

And it sounds like it's the Vols that are best positioned to land him.

"Over the last month, I think Tennessee, which has always been one of his top schools, has emerged as the team in the best spot," said On3 director of recruiting Chad Simmons this week.

"I thought Texas had that top spot at one time, and Michigan was right there, but with coaching changes at both of those schools, as well as the consistency at in-state Tennessee with Josh Heupel and his staff, I like where the Volunteers sit heading into Thursday’s decision," added Simmons.

Utley, 6-foot-4/265 lbs from Nashville, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 19 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Tennessee.

The coveted four-star recruit visited Tennessee in February and he has an official visit to Knoxville scheduled for later this summer. Utley will also take an official visit to Texas this summer.

Michigan, Oklahoma, Syracuse, and Texas are also in the mix for Utley, but it looks like it'll be Tennessee that gets good news on Thursday.
