It is official.
Outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will be a member of the Carolina Panthers, signing a two-year $20 million contract that has a chance to balloon to $24 million with incentives included.
On Friday, Clowney spoke to reporters about his plans now that he is officially a member of the Panthers. He also made a promise Panthers fans will love to hear.
Clowney, who has battled injuries at different points of his career, said that if he plays at least 16 of 17 games, he will be a Pro Bowler, Joseph Person of The Athletic reported Friday.
Coming off a year where he recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks, Clowney feeling confident about his abilities, even at 31 years old, is something the Panthers need.
Clowney will be a leader on the Panthers defense. He will be a stabilizing point in a locker room chalked full of young talent that has yet to find sustained success in the NFL.
But for the Rock Hill, South Carolina, native, that is a challenge he is eager to take on.
And for reference, the last tie Clowney started 16 games, in 2017 with the Houston Texans, he was a Pro Bowler. That is not a bad bet for the former No. 1 overall pick.
Jadeveon Clowney signed with the Panthers for reasons that go far beyond football
It didn’t take nearly as long as several thought, but it finally happened.
