The Tennessee Vols are right in the middle of college football's biggest recruiting battle.
And one national recruiting analyst considers the Vols a "major threat" to win the battle.
2025 five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr is the most coveted recruit in the nation. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee are top schools in the mix, with Clemson believed to have the edge for now.
The Vols, however, aren't far behind the Tigers.
Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Adam Friedman said this week that Clemson has the momentum in the battle for Sanders, but Tennessee looms as a large threat to the Tigers and the Bulldogs.
"All the momentum is on Clemson's side right now but Tennessee is lurking as a major threat to the Tigers and UGA," noted Friedman.
Sanders, 6-foot-6/270 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
The North Carolina native has the talent to anchor any offensive line in the nation, which is why he's such a hot commodity (Sanders has future NFL first-round draft pick potential).
Tennessee will receive an unofficial visit from Sanders in April for the annual Orange and White game. He'll return to Knoxville in June for an official visit.
2025 five-star quarterback/Vols commit George MacIntyre is expected to be at Tennessee for both of Sanders' upcoming visits in an effort to help woo the five-star offensive tackle to Rocky Top.
There's a long way to go in this battle. And even though Clemson seemingly has the edge — Sanders grew up rooting for the Tigers — the Vols have a legitimate chance to emerge as the eventual landing spot for Sanders. But for that to happen, Tennessee will have to absolutely nail Sanders' upcoming visits.
