Philadelphia Eagles safety Reed Blankenship is having a spectacular Monday.

Just an hour after receiving a bonus from the league's Performance-Based Pay program, Blankenship inked a one-year extension with the Birds that keeps him in Philly through 2025.

Blankenship, 25, originally signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State in 2022.

Following a competitive training camp, Blankenship was just one of three UDFAs who made the Eagles' roster as a rookie that season. Through 10 games with four starts, Blankenship logged 32 total tackles and had two passes defended in his first year.

In 2023, Blankenship became a full-time starter for the Birds. He started 15 of 17 games and recorded a team-high 108 total tackles, 11 passes defended, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Blankenship’s extension pays him a fully guaranteed $3.935 million over the next two years and he can earn an additional $1.375 million via playtime and Pro Bowl escalators:

  • $375k for 70% playtime
  • $625k for 80%
  • $875k for 90%
  • $500k for Pro Bowl

In addition to Blankenship's new contract, the NFL is paying him an extra $923,059 in performance-based pay for the 81% of defensive snaps he played in 2023.

That's more than doubles what he was making on his rookie UDFA contract base salary of $870,000.

It's safe to say that nobody is having a better Monday than Blankenship.
