If you voted question 1 on the Jackson County April 2 ballot, it would extend a stadium sales tax to go toward building a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals and renovating Arrowhead Stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals lost the vote, meaning several things.

First, it means that the Chiefs' future at Arrowhead Stadium past 2030 is no longer guaranteed. It's murky, honestly. Their proposition was to have renovations, which President Mark Donovan and Clark Hunt showed the Chiefs Kingdom, done to the stadium.

According to KCTV, Kansas City and Jackson County voted 30,791 for No, and 22,399 for Yes.

Over the months ahead, I look forward to working with the Chiefs and Royals to build a stronger, more open, and collaborative process that will ensure the teams, their events and investments remain in Kansas City for generations to come. -Kansas City Mayor, Quinton Lucas

The Chiefs lease with Arrowhead Stadium is up in 2031. This means they can explore other options for a location.

"We feel we put forth the best offer for Jackson County," President Mark Donovan said. "We will look to do what is in the best interest of our fans and our organization as we move forward."
