Tennessee Vols junior wide receiver Squirrel White made a comment about a UT newcomer that should definitely get fans excited and scare opposing offenses.
White was asked which defensive backs in spring practice have impressed him so far.
The first name that White mentioned was true freshman defensive back Boo Carter.
"Boo Carter, Boo Carter is special," said White. "He's like a playmaker out there. Flying to the ball, rerouting us (receivers), making good tackles. Yeah, he's been great."
White's comment about Carter comes just a couple of days after secondary coach Willie Martinez praised the true freshman for his athleticism and explosiveness.
"Boo is explosive," said Martinez. "Boo, you put him in any kind of drill and he’s going to show up. He’s so athletic. He’s quick. He’s got great instincts. It’s just the part of putting it all together in the package….He hasn’t really panicked, but he’s a very competitive player, [he] wants to win on every play. That’s what you love about it. It’s just trying to slow the process down for him as far as where it’s not happening too fast for him. It was early, but I think he’s doing a really nice job the last couple of practices.”
The Vols have plenty of talent in their secondary after adding several players via the transfer portal. Carter isn't a player that Tennessee needs to rely on this fall thanks to their depth. But it sounds like it might be hard to keep the dynamic athlete off the field in 2024.
Tennessee might finally have their own version of the Honey Badger on Rocky Top.
