The Denver Broncos haven't really been relevant since they won the Super Bowl in 2015. Sorry, but, that's really the truth. Since then, they have had countless losing seasons, seasons that have been embarrassing like the one with Nathaniel Hackett, and seasons that have been drama-filled like last year with Russell Wilson.
But, when you think of relevance with winning, it's certainly been a long time for the Broncos. Now, we are waiting for them to get back there, as the 10-year anniversary of the Super Bowl win creeps closer and closer. Many believe that Sean Payton can be the guy to do it, and while we don't know that for sure yet, he is certainly making moves that show he wants to get the Broncos back to glory.
His recent move surely shows that.
According to the Denver Broncos themselves, the team has decided to bring on former Stanford head coach David Shaw, as he will evaluate college and professional talent. Shaw was an assistant in the NFL from 1997 to 2005 with teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens, and after that moved up to a coordinator position with the Stanford Cardinals. From 2011-2019 he was the head coach there.
Shaw is one of the more respected guys in the college ranks, and many head coaches have tried to get him on their staff since.
So, this move is a huge one. Payton has connections and was able to get a guy who was rumored to be in talks for several NFL head coaching jobs in the last few years. Instead, he has him on the staff.
It's clear Sean Payton is doing whatever he can to try and get the franchise back to glory, where it belongs.
