Country music star Morgan Wallen hints at a big surprise for Tennessee fans during message to Vols baseball team

The Tennessee Vols' 2024 de facto national championship game on Monday night brought out stars to Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. Peyton Manning, Danny White, Josh Heupel, and Rick Barnes were there to support Tony Vitello and the Big Orange. Knoxville native and country music singer Morgan Wallen was also there, and he joined the Tennessee coaching elite in their box to watch the game.
The Vols prevailed 6-5 to claim the school's first-ever baseball national championship, to the delight of Wallen, Manning, White, Heupel, Barnes, and thousands of Tennessee fans in attendance and millions watching on television.
Wallen issued a recorded statement to the Vols baseball team, which the Tennessee Athletics Twitter account posted on Wednesday afternoon. While congratulating the players, Wallen hinted that something might be coming soon that could be of particular interest to the players, Tennessee fans, and country music fans alike.
"I just wanted to also say that you and the university have been extremely hospitable to me, my family, and my friends, especially in Omaha. So want to return the favor, and I'm going to return the favor. I can't tell you exactly how I'm going to do that just yet, but here in a few weeks, I'll be able to let you know what I mean. So just stay tuned with me, and I'll keep y'all posted on that."
Wallen has previously stated his dream – his top goal, actually – is to play a show at Neyland Stadium.
“I know it’s hard to imagine where you go from there," Wallen previously said. "It’s obviously really cool. I’m always trying to make new goals," Wallen previously said. "As far as touring goes, my No. 1 goal in selling out Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.”
If that is the surprise, it's something that could conceivably happen. Tennessee officials have been receptive to allowing country stars to play in Neyland Stadium. Garth Brooks did in most recently in 2019. Kenny Chesney rocked the house there in 2003. Other acts to play inside Neyland include Johnny Cash (1982), Michael Jackson (1984), and Taylor Swift (2008).
As such, there's plenty of precedent for Wallen to play in Neyland Stadium. After all, right now, it seems the school is as high on the country singer as he is on them. And that's as lofty as the Vols' perch above the college baseball world.
