An offseason of offensive change. That's the best way to describe this time of the year for the New Orleans Saints in 2024.
One of their best players on offense sounds excited about the new play caller and overall scheme around the unit. He thinks that the team can move the ball downfield more consistently under new OC Klint Kubiak. They must find more consistency after a disappointing 2023.
Chris Olave embracing the offense under new OC Klint Kubiak
"(Kubiak) brings a real dynamic offense, a lot of different plays, a lot of different schemes, a lot of different styles to the Saints. I'm excited to be able to play in that West Coast offense. He brings a different thing to us, and I'm excited to be able to work with him."
"It's been (going) real well in OTAs, and we're getting to work and we're starting off real good. Picking up the plays and doing all that, we're doing that stuff right now, so when it comes to the season, we're all ready." — Olave
It's clearly been a breath of fresh air for Olave. The offense seems to get the ball in his hands with more space to do work after the catch.
The young wideout has reportedly been focusing on improving that sector of his game. Under Kubiak, he will have more opportunities to do exactly that.
Olave totaled 87 catches for 1,123 yards last season. Both those stats were top-20 totals in the NFL.
Olave has been held back some time so far this offseason with a shoulder injury, according to HC Dennis Allen, though. He suffered the "tweak" in the weight room weeks ago. Regardless, it does not sound like an injury that will bug him once the season begins as long as they are smart about it.
"I'm just rehabbing right now, a little tweak. Just rehabbing, like I said. Still out there for every rep, so nothing to overthink about it." — Olave
All in all, you can expect some big plays from Olave in 2024. His connection with QB Derek Carr seems like it will take a step forward under their new coordinator.
