Xavier Legette credits a two-year run with one Panthers DB for improving his game
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette credited his run with Jaycee Horn for taking his game to the next level.
Xavier Legette, the Carolina Panthers' No. 32 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, credits his time with cornerback Jaycee Horn for improving his game.
Legette and Horn overlapped for the 2019 and 2020 seasons at the University of South Carolina. Legette didn't burst onto the scene until the 2023 season. However, the rookie wide receiver credits Horn for being the one to take his game to the next level.
"He's one of the best corners that I ever played with just by how patient he is,'' Legette said of Horn via David Newton of ESPN. "That's forcing me to have to work on a release. I can't just work the same releases on him.
"He's real aggressive at the line, so that's forcing me to use my hands and have technique to be able to get away from him.''
Legette continued: "I feel he's gotten a lot smarter with his game. He'll be calling out the routes and calling out the reads before we even get totally lined up. … And he just has the perfect technique."
Horn is heading into a massive season. Despite his injury concerns, the Panthers picked up his fifth-year option.
He still feels as though he is one of the best defensive backs in the league. The Panthers have put the ball in his court to prove it.
Horn's 22 games played out of a possible 51 are the second-fewest by a cornerback selected in the top 10 of the draft over the past 20 years.
For a long stretch, Horn has been defined by his injuries. However, when healthy, he looks like one of the most talented defensive backs in the league. Now the Panthers are banking on him living up to that talent again.
