2025 five-star Tennessee Vols quarterback commit George MacIntyre is one of the top recruits in the nation.
MacIntyre, 6-foot-5/190 lbs from Nashville, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 4 quarterback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee. He's also rated as the No. 21 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
Despite his standing as one of the top football recruits in the nation, there are still some areas where MacIntyre can stand to improve.
One area, specifically, was pointed out by ESPN's Tom Luginbill this week.
Luginbill noted that the biggest area where MacIntyre needs to improve is his size.
From ESPN: Areas of improvement: Growth and physical strength. He's underdeveloped, super tall and rail thin. The fact that he's not going to have to play right away at Tennessee is going to aid his development and maturity.
Luginbill also noted the areas of MacIntyre's game that are already considered strengths.
From ESPN: At 6-6, MacIntyre has rare height and is a pure pocket player with good feet and sneaky pocket quickness. He's a late bloomer physically, and that's a good thing. He handles the ball well and is fundamentally sound and consistent. MacIntyre possesses a strong, but not elite arm. With time in the weight room and physical development, his arm will get stronger. He sees the field well and consistently makes good decisions on time.
The good news for the Vols is that they won't need to rely on MacIntyre until 2026 at the earliest. The five-star recruit will almost certainly sit behind quarterbacks Nico Iamaleava and Jake Merklinger in 2025 before battling Merklinger for the starting job in 2026 (unless Nico returns in 2026, but it's still far too early to know how that situation will play out).
Tennessee is on a heater when it comes to landing top quarterback recruits. And they could have another one on the way if they're able to close the deal with 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon, a player who is strongly considering the Vols.
