The NFL offseason is always intriguing. Changes, adjustments, comments. All of those aspects of NFL squads rise to the top.
Being on the roster bubble can be difficult, and position battles will truly begin to rev up over the next few months around the league. For the New York Giants, they have a notable situation on their offense when it comes to roster cuts before the 2024 season.
A to Z Sports' Mike Payton revealed a list of one potential cut candidate for each of the 32 NFL teams.
Giants WR Isaiah Hodgins named potential surprise cut candidate
Hodgins might look like a roster lock at first sight but the Giants have beefed up at wide receiver and the battle for that last WR spot will be fun to monitor. The Giants signed Allen Robinson after the NFL Draft and assuming they like him, Hodgins might find himself on the outside looking in. Keep in mind, Hodgins has only six career special teams snaps, which means WR6 could go to a specialist like Gunner Olszewski or Isaiah McKenzie.
This may surprise some folks, but the depth chart is a bit more crowded for New York entering the 2024 season.
Malik Nabers joined the group, alongside recent draft picks Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt. Those two latter names seemingly have roles locked in for the Giants. Darius Slayton was brought back on a value deal, too. Outside of that handful, it is a bit cloudier.
Hodgins is a piece of that group. Veterans Allen Robinson and Isaiah McKenzie are competing for roster spots, and McKenzie's special teams abilities could help him edge out some other guys, including Hodgins.
The decision for their final WR spot may come down to choosing one receiver out of Robinson, Hodgins, Miles Boykin, and Gunner Olszewski.
We will see who makes the cut for New York. Hodgins became a bit of a fan favorite depth player in 2022 for some folks, but his spot is not locked in quite yet in 2024.
