The New York Giants just doubled down on a major steal from their 2026 free agency class

The New York Giants landed a steal in free agency this spring — and they’ve just doubled down with a new, long-term contract.

Well that didn’t take long. Sometimes in a relationship…you just know. And it seems like that is the case for the New York Giants and cornerback Greg Newsome II.

Just months after the Giants landed Newsome on a one-year deal in free agency, the team is reportedly locking him up for a three-year contract extension, making him firmly a piece of the puzzle for the Giants’ defense for the long haul. Newsome is getting a $46 million dollar deal to stay in New York after this season.

Cornerback Greg Newsome lands long-term extension with the New York Giants after proving to be a free agency steal

It took the Giants just seven months (and seven games) to decide that Greg Newsome II was worth of being a long-term building block. I’m not overly surprised, as he was a successful early draft choice for the Cleveland Browns for the duration of his rookie contract before getting traded to Jacksonville last October.

The vibes this fall are a little different, as Newsome can now celebrate knowing he’s not going to find himself back on the open market any time soon. He’s just 26 years old — meaning he can potentially serve as a starter in New York throughout the remainder of his prime in the NFL.

The $46 million contract averages out to just over $15 million per season in new money. That’s worth the 25th overall spot in the annual average salary of all cornerback contracts currently active in the NFL. You could argue is is still, in fact, a steal. Just one that comes at nearly twice the payroll that he was originally on the books for in New York. When you know, you know. And it didn’t take the Giants very long to get the assurance that the rest of the NFL mysteriously missed this spring. Oh well, their loss is New York’s gain — again.
