The Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce have agreed on a 2-year contract adjustment that makes him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Kelce is a staple of the Chiefs offense, proving to be a menace for opposing teams. For seven straight seasons, he had 1,000-plus receiving yards, but fell short in 2023 with 93 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season.
And throughout his 11 seasons, he has 907 receptions for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdown. Plus those nine Pro Bowl nods and four first-team All-Pro selections aren't too bad either.
So this is a very well-deserved payday for Kelce.
And Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took a moment to congratulate Kelce on this big day.
"I told yall I'll never let him leave!! Congrats my guy @tkelce," Mahomes wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Kelce will most likely have a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame following his career, but he has made it clear that he still has something left in the tank. And he's not planning on stopping anytime soon. (At least not for two years!)
The Chiefs tight end has three Super Bowls to his name, but with more time left, he could certainly add another one before his career is over.
And this extension also makes it clear that Kelce will most likely retire as a member of the Chiefs. It'll keep him in Kansas City through the 2025 NFL season.
You got to fight for your right to party, and Kelce has certainly done that. So he can enjoy the new contract.
