The New Orleans Saints had some inconsistent quarterback play in 2023. Derek Carr started his season off with some rough patches, alongside a handful of injuries. By midseason, he rounded into form for New Orleans, though.
The second half of Carr's first season with the Saints was much better than the first, though. He found connections with Chris Olave, Juwan Johnson, Rashid Shaheed, and other pass catchers. His offensive line was improved during that time as well.
In FanDuel's latest QB rankings, the disrespect went too far for Carr. They ranked him as the 29th-best quarterback in the NFL.
As you can see from the graphic, players like Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson are ahead of him. Jones has never proven to be a better QB than Carr and missed most of last year with injury. Richardson was a rookie who missed most of the season.
Additionally, four rookie quarterbacks are ahead of Carr. They have not taken a snap in the pros yet. Unacceptable.
Veterans Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson are both in front of the Saints QB, too. Neither had a better 2023 season than Carr, and that is simply a fact. You could argue that he played better than Geno Smith last year as well.
Carr's actual ranking should have been between 15 and 19 most likely.
He will need to make strides and find consistency this season, but that could be made simpler in Klint Kubiak's offense. Regardless, he is nowhere near the 29th-rated QB in football.
