The New York Jets had a very clear goal going into this off season. Improve the offensive line. What we didn’t know was that they meant to raid the Baltimore Ravens in order to get it done.
The Jets agreed to a trade with the Ravens to send right tackle Morgan Moses to New York along with Baltimore’s fourth-round pick, number 134, in exchange for the Jets fourth-round pick, number 112 and one of the Jets’ sixth-round picks, number 218.
The Ravens were trying to clear some salary and the Jets get a starting right tackle to pair with newly signed John Simpson to bolster their offensive line.
Moses, 33, was with the Jets in 2021 — the first year of head coach Robert Saleh’s tenure. He started 16 games for the club that year and played 94 percent of the team’s offensive snaps.
He then signed a three-year deal with Baltimore as a free agent. He started all 17 games for the Ravens in 2022 and 14 in 2023. Moses is scheduled to make $5.5 million in base salary in 2024, the last year of his contract.
A Washington Commanders third-round pick in 2014, Moses has appeared in 152 games with 144 starts in his 10-year career.
In 2023, Pro Football Focus graded Moses as 10th best tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
Not Done Yet
The Jets have now added two starting offensive linemen to the mix and both are upgrades over what they had before, at least on paper. Both guys are also more durable than the players who are leaving in free agency, something that must have been a priority going into this week.
The moves along the offensive line are not done for New York. The question still remains as to who will play left tackle and protect Aaron Rodgers’ blind side, provided he isn’t the Vice President of the United States by then.
I still believe New York will look to the draft to find their left tackle, but with rumors swirling about David Bakhtiari as well as Tyron Smith, New York might try and fill their offensive line in free agency and via trade and look for the best possible player in the draft. A top end wide receiver or Georgia tight end Brock Bowers for example.
Either way, the Jets will continue to work to protect Aaron Rodgers as they try to end their 13-year playoff drought.
Jets sign a veteran QB to backup Rodgers and multiple others overnight
Jets fans were in a panic all day watching player after player agree to contracts while the Jets sat back and watched. Jets fans were apoplectic while the watched players they had on their dream board sign elsewhere and the Jets stood pat. Starting around 11p.m. Eastern, Joe Douglas struck quietly and effiecently. The Jets […]
