A new landing spot has potentially emerged for Justin Fields that should have some of his Ohio State fans excited if it comes about.

Due to location, many Buckeye fans find themselves rooting for the Cleveland Browns, who now look like they could be a team that comes out of nowhere for Fields.

Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles said that if they decide to take Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in April, it would be the right thing to do with trading Fields by free agency. Legal tampering for free agency begins next Monday, so the clock is ticking.

“Fields’s market is waiting on Cousins’s market. One landing spot for Fields that I haven’t seen mentioned much anywhere, but that I really like, is Cleveland. I don’t think the Browns have a good quarterback on the roster (see: all of Deshaun Watson’s film since he returned from suspension). They would benefit from a low-risk, high-reward swing on the upside of Fields. If they find a starter in Fields, they can escape out of the back door of what is proving to be a catastrophically bad Watson contract.” – Ben Solak, The Ringer

Cleveland is tied into the contract of Watson until he is a free agent in 2027. Ir would be too costly for the Browns to cut him before then, so they’re forced to lay in the bed that they made. Through two seasons with the Browns, neither one has gone as wished for Watson for different reasons.

If his third year is off to a bad start and Fields is on the roster, the Browns very well could make a switch and just have to eat the money over the next couple of years. Fields is entering his fourth season and his fifth-year option will be affordable.

Sometimes a fresh start is all a player needs and this saying works well beyond sports. It could be the case for Fields who has shown he is one of the best running quarterbacks that the game has had. It is the passing side of things that has had its bumps and bruises, as well as decision-making.

Chicago hasn’t looked like a great setup for Fields from the jump. It’s never really worked and it looks like he could be moved any day. Potentially closer to Columbus? We’ll see.
