Defensive line is a popular pick among mock drafts – for good reason. The Scouting Combine gave them some valuable info on top players at pass rusher, too.
The Saints should draft EDGE Jared Verse with the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Verse is, simply put, an athletic specimen. New Orleans has always valued top-end physical abilities when it comes to their linemen, and Verse fits that bit.
Don't confuse athleticism/strength with rawness as a prospect, though. Verse has legit, polished pass rushing moves that are among the best in this draft class.
Verse received a 9.39 RAS score from his measurable numbers and testing at the Combine. His speed and explosiveness heralding his profile, and the Saints must add to their pass rush arsenal during this offseason.
How big is the need for the Saints at EDGE?
After last season, it's a major weakness. Carl Granderson is a solid defensive piece and was recently extended. He will stick around for at least the next couple of years, possibly longer.
As for Cameron Jordan, 2023 was the worst year of his career. He does not move quite like he has in the past, and it's clear that he may not play in the NFL for much longer. Accordingly, Verse would step into a prominent role as a rookie and push to start quickly in his pro career.
