New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley is expected to test the open market once free agency kicks off on Monday, March 11.

And the Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly one of the teams that will be after him next week, according to Howard Eskin of SportsRadio 94WIP

"I didn’t believe [it], but I checked it and they do have interest in Saquon Barkley, Esking said on Thursday. "I think they’re trying to work on something that would not be fully guaranteed. He’s not going to get a ton. I think they’re looking for a running back that can also catch the football."

Philly's interest in Saquon makes sense since three of their running backs are set to hit free agency, including D'Andre Swift, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny. That leaves Kenneth Gainwell as the only back on the active roster under contract for the Birds next season.

But it's going to come down to whether or not Eagles general manager Howie Roseman wants to spend money on a running back, something that he doesn't typically do.

According to A to Z Sports' contract experts, 27-year-old Barkley will be looking for a 3-year, $31.5 million deal with $15 million guaranteed.

However, it would be cheaper for the Eagles to re-sign 25-year-old Swift on a 4-year, $22.0 million deal with $12.5 million guaranteed, per A to Z Sports.

Barkley would have eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in 2023 had he not missed three games due to a high ankle sprain. He finished the year running for 962 yards and six touchdowns and added another 280 yards and 4 touchdowns receiving.

The Eagles can legally begin negotiating a potential deal with Barkley and other unrestricted free agents on Monday.
