The Indianapolis Colts reached a contract extension before the NFL's legal tampering period began, but not with who we were expecting.

The Colts gave LB and defensive captain Zaire Franklin a deserved raise.

Franklin and the Colts agreed on a three-year $31.26 million deal. The exact guidelines of this deal have not been released, but I expect this three-year deal will be added to Franklin's previous contract, which was set to finish at the end of next season.

In back-to-back years, Franklin set the Colts franchise record for tackles in a single season. And he has solidified himself as one of the team's leaders in the locker room and on the field.

Franklin's emergence over the past two seasons has been big for the Colts' defense, and now he is linked to the Colts for another four seasons. For the first time in quite some time, the team's trajectory is clearly pointing in the right direction, and Franklin will continue to be an essential part of it.
