One of the worst moments of the Tennessee Vols' 2023 season was easily wide receiver Bru McCoy's brutal season-ending injury that occurred during UT's win against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

McCoy suffered a fracture and dislocated ankle after getting tackled in the second quarter against the Gamecocks.

The California native, who quickly became a fan favorite in Knoxville after transferring from USC ahead of the 2022 season, missed the rest of the 2023 season due to the injury.

McCoy, who is returning to Tennessee in 2024 for his final season of eligibility, recently joined The Players Lounge Tennessee and he was asked by guest host Josh Dobbs how he felt leaving the field the night of his injury.

The redshirt senior wide receiver revealed that he didn't go into shock after suffering the gruesome injury. And during the ambulance ride to the hospital, McCoy had a thought that nearly every Knoxville resident can probably relate to — the potholes around town have gotta be fixed.

"Leaving the field, it was kind of surreal," said McCoy. "Everyone asks 'oh, did you go into shock?' Not really, you know exactly what's going on. I remember just thinking, [while] heading to the hospital, there has to be something done about the roads in Knoxville, because we were hitting so many potholes consistently."

I'm sure that didn't make that ambulance ride any easier for McCoy, who was in obvious pain. But at least he was able to retain his sense of humor during a terrible moment.

McCoy won't be a full-go during spring practice as he recovers from the injury, but he said last month during an interview with Off the Hook Sports that he expects to be 100 percent when fall camp gets underway later this year.
