Original reports of Chase Young's contract with the New Orleans Saints did not tell the full story. Many folks claimed that the deal is full guaranteed, worth $13 million in total.

Half of that assessment is correct. The deal is worth $13M in total, but it's not fully guaranteed due to per-game roster bonuses.

$7.99M of the contract is based on Young's availability during the season.

Accordingly, Young must be available in order to get paid the deal in full. Of course, there were many questions regarding the deal when it first got announced. The "fully guaranteed" description raised some eyebrows.

Now, we know that Young has to recover well from his neck surgery that he will have on Thursday, March 21st. If for some reason he misses major time, the Saints will not be on the hook for all of his deal.

That should comfort plenty of Saints fans.
