The Carolina Panthers are banking on the defense playing at a high level come Week 1.
And to do so, that means getting the most out of Brian Burns, Justin Houston, and Derrick Brown, who didn't play a snap in the preseason but are expected to make a massive impact against the Atlanta Falcons.
"We'd like to think it's going to add a lot (to have them play)," Reich said Tuesday. "Derrick Brown hasn't played. Justin Houston hasn't played. There's a lot of production right there. We think those guys will make a big impact."
Burns was recently predicted to have a great season by ESPN. The network ranked Burns as the No. 54 best player in the league. Burns was also predicted to rack up 12.5 sacks, good enough for seventh-best on the list.
Houston was a veteran name the Panthers brought in to offer linebacker help. then Brown is guaranteed to eat up space up front as a tackle.
Reich knows expectations are riding on the play of his defense. And that starts with the leaders of the group. If the Panthers get the most out of Houston, Brown, and Burns, Week 1 may go according to plan.
