As a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you can either be a glass-half-full person or you can be miserable.
Outside of a few fun seasons over the past few decades, the above is usually your only choice.
In sticking with this way of thinking, one very positive way of looking at this new Buccaneer roster ahead of the 2023 season is just how young it has become.
Age can be an interesting way of looking at an NFL roster. The past few years (outside of last year) saw a pretty old Buccaneers team dominate most competition. However, an end was always coming to that strategy.
The game changes. Youth is necessary, especially for a team that loses the Fountain of Youth when Tom Brady retires. You have to pay up on back-loaded contracts, and rookies (drafted and undrafted) become your only option.
The Bucs may be green and lack experience that a lot of reliable bodies brought during the Super Bowl season and subsequent success, but there is an obvious silver lining in having the eighth-youngest team in the NFL.
Sure, year one is going to be tough, but the future for this team is extremely bright.
A full rebuild isn't necessary. A simple shift at head coach and quarterback could make this team a legitimate playoff contender tomorrow, and while it won't happen that soon, this should be on the table for the end of the season.
Assuming the Bucs can keep their big, key free agents, of which there are very few, this young roster is going to gain experience, chemistry, and just get better as the depth grows, and that will put the team in the same position it was in before Tom Brady arrived.
A rookie quarterback or free agent and an offensive-oriented head coach could immediately find themselves in a very positive situation headlined by a very cheap, talented, and experienced group of young players that will learn via a bit of fire in 2023.
It won't always be easy, but this way of thinking should soften the blow of some of the tougher moments of this season, especially if the rookies and other young players can get as many reps as possible.
